The Doctor: It's a lot to take in, isn't it? Tiny box, huge room inside; what's that about? Let me explain...
Rory: It's another dimension.
The Doctor: It's basically another dimen- what?
Rory: After what happened with Prisoner Zero, I've been reading up on all the latest scientific theories. FTL travel, parallel universes.
The Doctor: I like the bit when someone says "It's bigger on the inside!" I always look forward to that. [The Doctor looks annoyed, then grins]
The Vampires of Venice

I can remember it as clear as day, sitting in my Parent's basement.  I was home from school and dinner wasn't ready yet.  Some sort of educational programming had just quit on WXXI in Rochester, NY, and there was nothing else on TV -- so I let it run.

Then this music began -- some sort of mad bass riff that was both eerie and hip.  And the screen began swimming, first with some stars of planets flying at me, then waves of plasma or intergalactic ice cream or something spilling toward me.  In the middle of it, this fellow with very 70's hair and a black cape appeared.  He seemed to be some sort of scientist or flamboyant playboy, and he disappeared into the miasma of colors and asteroids.  Then this show about him began, and I can remember definitively that he was fighting werewolves from the center of the Earth -- 25 minutes at a time, 5 days a week.

That's not what this blog is about.  This blog is about his Blue Box.

This fellow -- who, over the next 7 years, changed from the hip old man with the black cape to the vaguely-maniacal lunatic with the excessively-long scarf and pocket full of jelly babies to the young, modern cricketeer and so on -- had this Blue Box.  And she (always a "she" -- always an unfathomable old girl) was bigger on the inside.

I always wanted a Blue Box.  For my mid-life crisis, I decided to build one.

This blog is about sharing my plans for building models of the Blue Box, none of which are bigger on the inside.  It's also my hope to build a small community of Blue Box builders where we can all learn something, share our joy in this pan-cultural icon, and all have our own Blue Boxes.
